I did not paint all the time, I did many other things but painting is the ‘red thread’ through my childhood till today and because I am a person who could not sit long on one chair, I also did quite a lot of other stuff, creativity wise. In so far I can remember, I drew a little bit with everything that you can draw with, on everything you can draw on. I have that innate urge, to put something down on paper or canvas. I have asked myself many times why have I always painted or have come back to painting, even after long pauses in between? What is so important that I cannot leave putting things down. I never figured that out really and most probably I never will. The only thing I can say that I saw painting/drawing as something very important, from very young age.

It is not so difficult to tell one story on a canvas or paper but then I thought it was already done by more than enough painters and most probably, better than I could, so why repeat? I went on a search and painted a lot but did not succeed for a long time to get something unique, something what I really wanted to show on a canvas. What I wanted to show was the compactness, the intricate, complex interconnectedness and the differences of world population and how I look at it. I paint and like most of the painters I am not so good with words as I want to be, to explain why I paint the way I do. Anyhow, it looks to be a kind of necessity to give some explanation on why I do, what I do.
I began drawing from my early childhood. Even then I tried to find a way to put so much on one painting that it tells the whole story. But the first dilemma was what is the story? I have always liked to listen to stories and experiences of people of all ages. I liked to be around people from different ways of living, ethnic backgrounds and cultures. And everybody lives a life different from each other, I figured. And this was the story I wanted to paint, symbolically. |
